Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Since 2011.
What is your primary product or service?
Shiatsu; a Japanese therapeutic massage technique using acupressure applied with fingers, hands, and elbows to relieve tension in the body. The treatment is given with the client fully clothed and laying on a massage table or seated in a specially designed massage chair.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Shiatsu is a natural extension of my interest in TaiChi, yoga, stretching and bodywork that helps people feel better in their mind, body, and spirit. This is a second career after spending nearly 30 years as a student of and consultant in archaeology and cultural resource management.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
As a type of massage, shiatsu includes but goes far beyond the relaxation that comes from the typical Swedish styles found in most spa and massage therapy businesses. Shiatsu gets to the root of problems you have to help you recover from chronic or acute pain and injury.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
I work in-home where I have a dedicated clinic room. While expansion is possible, I have no current plans to do so. I also can bring treatments to you at your home or business, a service particularly valuable for the elderly or those with limited mobility.
